Aer Lingus And Ryanair Launch Flash Sales As Airline Returns To Full Service

Irish flag carrier Aer Lingus has announced a limited period of flash sales aimed at wooing passengers back after flights to Europe and the US were abandoned following industrial action by its pilots. It’s a blowout sale going on until July 18th, featuring major price cuts on European and North American destinations.

Where the traveler can benefit from a 25% discount on all flights within Europe between July 20 and September 30, at the same time, Transatlantic passengers will have the good fortune of finding all-inclusive prices to North America from just €199 one way with return flight valid until October 6.

This promotional offer follows shortly from the bad times for the airline when the company was forced to cancel over 600 flights because of a dispute with its pilots. This significant number of cancellations resulted in a drastic fall in new bookings and now compels the carrier to divert strategy from damage limitation towards rejuvenation of its services.

Recent developments show that the strike may finally be over. After this meeting, the Labour Court decided in favor of a 17.75% pay hike for pilots over four years. Aer Lingus has also accepted the compromise and all 400 of Irish Air Line Pilots’ Association members are to vote on this proposal by tomorrow and the results are to be out by July 23.

The website of the airline now has more positivity, as the formerly customer-offensive travel cancellation and delay warning messages have been pulled and replaced with sale advertisements for prospective “golden Faro beaches, Parisian Olympic excitement, breathtaking Santorini sunsets, Palma pulsating nightlife, and Nice glamorous Côte d’Azur.”

Despite talk of hedging its bets after holding off on Boston, northeast USA  for so long, Aer Lingus seems strongly focused on the North Atlantic – now 19 North American routes, with Denver and Minneapolis St. Paul added most recently, a new transatlantic route to Las Vegas later this week, and another in October.

In response, low-cost rival Ryanair launched its own 48-hour flash sale, with the budget airline offering passengers fares from €21.99 that can be booked until July 17 on their website.

Ryanair’s Head of Communications Jade Kirwan said: “With Europe basking in glorious summer weather, there’s no better time to snap up a bargain flight to one of our 250+ destinations in Ryanair’s latest 48-hour flash sale.”

With both airlines offering attractive deals, travelers are the ultimate beneficiaries, particularly concerning the reduced fare levels targeting numerous destinations. Nevertheless, potential clients are being advised to carefully go through terms and conditions as sale fares will depend on route and strongly on certain travel dates.
