Are Pets Allowed on EVA Airline Flights?

Yes, you can carry pets on an Eva Airline flight, but there are some restrictions in this regard: 

• You can only take rabbits, dogs, and cats. They cannot go in as cabin baggage but have to be checked and will be included as a part of the cargo. 

• There is an exception for service dogs, which can go into the cabin to assist disabled passengers. 

• Animals less than four months of age and those who are pregnant aren’t allowed to be carried.

• If you have a request for pet travel, inform the reservation staff at EVA Air at least 48 hours before departure. You must also submit a duplicate copy of the “Passenger’s Declaration for Live Animal” form to the authorities during check-in. 

• Some countries may demand health certificates, vaccination proof, and other documents related to your pet. Make sure you carry all of it. Your inability to furnish proper proof of the health and safety of your animal may lead the authorities to dismiss your request to carry your pet. 

• Check-in at least two hours before your departure time to ensure hassle-free handling of your pet. At London Heathrow Airport, you must check in 2.5 hours before departure. 

Restrictions and Limitations in Carrying Pets on EVA Air

1. The aircraft numbers B787 and A321 have some limitations regarding pet travel. A 321 doesn’t allow pets to be carried as checked baggage. In the case of B787, pets aren’t allowed in checked baggage for long-haul flights to North America, Oceania, and Europe. In short-haul flights, only two cages per flight are permissible. 

2. There are certain brachycephalic breeds of cats and dogs, including their mixes, which the Northern Hemisphere doesn’t permit on flights from the 1st of April to the 30th of November. For the Southern Hemisphere, it is from the 1st of October – 31st of March. However, pets aren’t allowed at any time of the year on EVA Air flights going via or from Southeast Asia (Cambodia, Vietnam, Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, Philippines, and Singapore). 4. There are country-wise restrictions as mentioned below: 

• One cannot carry pets as checked or cabin baggage to Australia’s Brisbane. However, when traveling from Brisbane, carrying pets is allowed. Properly harnessed service dogs accompanying hearing or visually-impaired passengers are permitted in the cabin. 

• Seeing-eye or hearing aid dogs and pets cannot be carried as checked or cabin baggage to the United Kingdom. However, traveling from the UK could be included as checked baggage in the cargo. Passengers carrying pets and departing from Heathrow Airport must check in 2.5 hours before departure to avoid hassle. 

• Flights from Hong Kong allow pets to be checked as baggage. However, pets aren’t permitted on flights to Hong Kong. There is an exception. Guide or assistance dogs for disabled individuals are allowed on flights to and from Hong Kong. Before bringing such dogs on board, quarantine documents, certification, and approval from Hong Kong’s Fishery and Agricultural Department are required. 

• China has some stringent rules regarding pets entering the country. Only cats and dogs are allowed; each person can carry no more than one pet. When bringing the pets to the country, the pet owner must provide a valid (rabies) vaccination and quarantine certificate. The pets must even be microchipped electronically. Some pets may need to be quarantined for 30 days at an isolated location that the customs officials designate. Pets complying with all the requirements and those passing the inspection may not have to go through the 30-day quarantine. 

• To bring a pet to the United States, you should follow the regulations of the respective airlines you are traveling in and even the states where you are going. Some states or airlines require you to furnish your pet’s health certificates, while others don’t. 

Can You Carry Your Pet as Checked Baggage in EVA Airline?

As mentioned, when you meet all the specified requirements, you can carry your pet as checked baggage on EVA Airline. Here are some vital aspects to keep in mind. 

• You must carry your pet in a rigid plastic container with only a single door for entry and exit. The container must not have any other door lest the pet could escape or expose its claws out of the same. 

• The sides should have functioning ventilation, while the floor material should have moisture-absorbing ability. 

• Protective nets or straps should be on the sides of the cage door to secure your pet.

• If the pet cage has wheels, remove them to prevent movement during transportation. 

• The animals in the container must have ample space to move about conveniently, sit and stand correctly, and even lie comfortably in a natural position. There must be a proper supply of food and water. Also, attach feeding receptacles to the container for your pet’s convenience. 
• Containers made of wire mesh, wicker mesh, welded mesh, wicker, cardboard, and collapsible materials will not be accepted. Moreover, containers with one door are not permissible. 
• The pet and the container combined shouldn’t exceed 31 lbs or 14 kg.

What are the Fees for Carrying Pets on EVA Airlines?

When you have a pet and a container going in as checked baggage, the charges for excess baggage will apply. They won’t be a part of the free baggage you are allowed to carry. 

• If your pet and the cage weigh less than equal to 32 kg or 70 lbs, charges for two extra baggage units will apply.
• If your pet and the cage weigh more than 32 kg or 70 lbs, you will be charged for four extra baggage units. 
• The maximum permissible weight is 50 kg or 110 lbs. Anything more than that requires EVA Air’s approval. Otherwise, it cannot be checked as baggage. 

The fee structure varies according to the zones. There are five zones. Zone 1 comprises Korea, Hong Kong, Japan, Macau, China, the Philippines, Singapore, Brunei, Vietnam, Myanmar, Laos, Indonesia, Cambodia, and Malaysia. 

Zone 2 comprises Oceania (Australia and New Zealand), Micronesia (Palau and Guam), Russia, and Asia (excluding Taiwan). 

Zone 3 includes LAX (Los Angeles International Airport), YVR (Vancouver International Airport), SEA (Seattle–Tacoma International Airport), SFO (San Francisco Airport), and HNL (Daniel K. Inouye International Airport). Zone 4 includes North America (except for Zone 3 countries). Lastly, Central America and South America form a part of Zone 5. EVA Airlines Policy Regarding Service Dogs

EVA Airlines has revised its emotional support and service animal policies from January 2021.

• Psychiatric service dogs and fully trained dogs are permitted in the cabin. 
• The service dog must be four months and above in age.
• Your service dog must be in sound health. They should have been vaccinated from rabies and mustn’t have been exposed to rabies. They should also be free of pests or diseases that may harm the public interest.
• You should leash, harness, or tether your service dog and keep a spare mask handy. 
• Moreover, dogs taken on board for service or emotional support must be clean, well-behaved in public, and follow the handler’s commands to the tee. They aren’t permitted to run at their free will airport terminals or aircraft.
• Service dogs should be of a size enough to accommodate on the handler’s lap or in the foot space in front. 
• You cannot make your service dog sit in the exit row or block the aisle. He shouldn’t occupy a seat or eat from the tray tables. 
• Service dogs showing disruptive behavior, such as growling, lunging, jumping, biting, or attempting to bite, and defecating or urinating in the cabin or airport terminal, will not be allowed in the cabin. 
• Submit your forms at the EVA Air registration office around 48 hours before departure to carry a service dog. EVA Air will notify you when your document is approved. 

Service dogs won’t be allowed to travel in the cabin:

• If they pose a threat to others
• If they cause disruption in the aircraft or at the airport 
• If they do not comply with the terms and conditions needed for traveling in the cabin
