American Airlines passenger recounts evacuation from smoke on plane in San Francisco

There was an emergency evacuation on an American Airlines flight. This happened after the crew reported smoke inside the cabin. This created a chaotic situation when the aircraft was at the San Francisco International Airport. A laptop in a passenger’s bag triggered the smoke.

Jan Jankai, traveling on American Airlines accompanied by his father, mentioned that they could smell something that seemed like a burnt cable when they boarded the plane. The smell became more intense with them. Jankai further related that he saw flames emerging under his father’s seat. He said that the increased intensity of the smoke choked them. It seemed as if they would pass out. They tried getting up but couldn’t since they were buckled to their seat. Upon buckling, they headed towards the back emergency gate. Jankai’s father’s bag was seated right above the bag on fire. To save himself from danger, he threw the bag off the plane’s emergency exit.

As per reports, three individuals sustained minor injuries while trying to evacuate through emergency slides. The SFFD (San Francisco Fire Department) updated that one injured person required medical urgency. American Airlines even confirmed that they were aware that a passenger sustained minor injuries during evacuation. It was even said that the fire had evolved from the laptop’s battery and was put out before the firefighting team reached the spot. It was indeed a narrow escape from a grave danger.
