Breeze Airways, a low-cost carrier headquartered in Salt Lake City, Utah, announced that the company would be suspending its nonstop service from the Springfield Abraham Lincoln Capital Airport to Florida’s Tampa International Airport. The route has been operating for less than a year and will end on August 12, 2024.
According to Ryan Williams, a communications specialist for Breeze Airways, this was always in the works. “As for the route from Springfield to Tampa, we had always intended it to be a summer seasonal service,” Williams said. ‘This would be a seasonal closure’ We do not have a set date as to when this particular route will open again but now we are aiming for the next summer.
The airline, which until just a couple of months ago was seeking to rapidly grow its network across 29 states within a matter of a few months, only announced the Springfield-Tampa route in December 2023. Largely operating for only a few months, Breeze Airways claims that the route will resume in 2025 but specific dates remain unspecified.
On the other hand, Breeze will retain the other flight it operates from Abraham Lincoln Capital Airport – a nonstop service to Orlando, Florida. Williams indicated that there are no changes applicable to the Orlando route, saying, “We moved it from selling until early 2025, extending it out until May.”

Breeze Airways, formed in 2018 and operating since May 2021, focuses on nonstop service to major center Florida airports from mid-size cities. It added a tremendous number of 56 cities to its flight roster since its inception. It is, however, important to note that through 2022 and 2023, the domestic carrier Breeze eventually canceled four flights in Texas, Tennessee, and Oklahoma.
Airliner’s business model involves providing under-served city-pair mid-size routes at economy non-stop for traveling consumers. However, this major change in Springfield does not seem to hinder Breeze Airways from further expansion in the U. S. aviation market.
As the suspension date of August 12 draws nearer, any passengers with bookings for travel after that date should contact Breeze Airways concerning the changes to their travel plans. Interests in the resumption of the Tampa route have, however, persisted for the next summer, thereby indicating that the airline is persistently interested in providing services to the Springfield area market as it recalibrates for new seasonal demands.
