According to airline officials, a United Airlines flight that was to travel from Miami to Newark, New Jersey, was compelled to make an emergency landing at Orlando on Tuesday evening due to an aggressive passenger.
The incident happened on Flight 762, where a female passenger was said to have caused a stampede in the plane. Surveillance and a video obtained by TMZ reveal the woman shouting at the other passengers while the crew tried to subdue her with the help of plastic ties.
The incident only worsened when the unhappy customer supposedly bit the shoulder of one of the flight attendants while she was being restrained, tearing fabric from the uniform of the attendant. The woman was also seen spitting the pieces of cloth and even screaming at other passengers while two flight attendants dragged her to the plane’s front end.
This was rather long, clocking approximately three hours and thirty minutes. When the plane reached Orlando, an emergency landing was planned to prevent the incident from aggravating further. The police entered the aircraft at Orlando, and the aggressive passenger was escorted off the plane.
A United Airlines spokesperson told FOX 35, “Our flight attendants worked to de-escalate the situation and protect other customers. After landing in Orlando, law enforcement officers met the flight, and the passenger was removed.” The airline expressed gratitude for its employees’ great professionalism and commitment to keeping its passengers safe.
According to the Orlando Police Department, the woman was later taken to a local hospital for examination. For now, there have not been any arrests over the matter. The video also shows other passengers applauding as the woman leaves the aircraft.
